El canal Bogotá, en pleno corazón de Cúcuta, se ha convertido en un espejo incómodo de lo que somos como sociedad: una ciudad atrapada entre la indiferencia ciudadana y la desidia oficial. Cada jueves, cuadrillas de la empresa de aseo Veolia se esfuerzan por devolverle algo de dignidad a este espacio urbano, pero al día siguiente la historia se repite. Montones de basura, escombros, restos de comida y hasta muebles viejos vuelven a aparecer como si nada hubiese pasado.
La pregunta es inevitable: ¿qué falla más, la ciudadanía o el Estado? Por un lado, es innegable que el canal Bogotá refleja la falta de cultura ciudadana. Vendedores informales, transeúntes y vecinos del sector ven el canal como un vertedero a mano, ignorando que existen líneas habilitadas para la recolección de escombros y residuos especiales. Arrojar basura se ha vuelto una práctica tan normalizada, que ya ni escandaliza.
Pero tampoco se puede eximir a las autoridades. Este no es un problema nuevo. Se habla de educación ambiental, de campañas de cultura ciudadana y de proyectos de recuperación, pero en la práctica todo se reduce a limpiezas semanales que, aunque necesarias, no solucionan nada de fondo. La ausencia de sanciones efectivas, de un verdadero control urbano y de políticas sostenibles condena al canal a seguir siendo un basurero a cielo abierto.
El canal Bogotá no solo es un problema estético o de malos olores: es una amenaza ambiental y sanitaria. La contaminación arrastra enfermedades, atrae vectores y degrada aún más el centro de la ciudad. Y mientras tanto, la comunidad y las autoridades siguen en un eterno juego de responsabilidades cruzadas: unos culpan al ciudadano común y otros al Estado, sin que nadie asuma con contundencia la tarea de transformar la realidad.
La solución no puede seguir siendo una simple jornada de limpieza. Se requiere un pacto colectivo: campañas pedagógicas reales y constantes, sanciones ejemplares para quienes insistan en contaminar, infraestructura para el manejo adecuado de residuos y, sobre todo, un cambio de mentalidad ciudadana. Porque si algo demuestra el canal Bogotá es que Cúcuta necesita con urgencia aprender a cuidar lo suyo.
El canal Bogotá nos interpela como sociedad. O lo rescatamos juntos, o lo condenamos al olvido eterno.
